LIVING SPACES

A 3D design tool lets users visualize and plan their space by testing how different products will fit and look together, ensuring the design is both functional and stylish before making any purchases.
IKEA
The IKEA mobile app lets you scan your room and design your space by incorporating IKEA 3D products in mixed reality. You can also explore over 50 virtual showrooms to get inspiration and visualize how different items will look and fit in your home.
The Crazy 8s technique is a rapid brainstorming method used in design sprints to generate a wide range of ideas by sketching 8 concepts in 8 minutes. It’s a core part of the "sketch" phase in the Google Ventures (GV) design sprint.

Crazy 8’s
I began my second day by conducting in-depth research and gathering additional data from competitors, utilizing an adapted lightning demo method.
This approach allowed me to gain valuable insights into the industry, offering a clearer understanding of how competitors have addressed similar challenges and successfully resolved them.
Day 3
STORYBOARD

In my solution sketch, users can upload an image of their room that needs a stylish decoration. The AI-powered tool analyzes the room and automatically suggests decorations based on the user’s selected budget, style, and preferred items. Users can instantly see how the proposed decorations will look in their room. This feature provides a seamless and personalized decorating experience, helping users create a space they love with confidence.
Day 4
PROTOTYPE
I designed high-fidelity screens to illustrate the key steps a user would follow to buy decoations that they can search filter and get suggestions based on their needs .

Day 5
TESTING
I asked participants to find and purchase decorative items for their living room that complement their existing furniture by uploading a picture.
To evaluate the shopping experience on the website, I recruited 5 participants aged 25 to 45 who occasionally purchase home decor online. The focus of the testing was to gather insights on the AI decorator feature I designed, exploring not only its effectiveness in helping users select and visualize decor but also how intuitive, user-friendly, and useful it feels to them.
Feedback from the participants
Positive
Users appreciated the minimalist aesthetic, with ample white space and a consistent color scheme, making the site feel uncluttered and visually calming.
The clear layout and prominent categories made it easy for users to find what they were looking for, with intuitive filtering options for price, style, and color.
Participants found the AI tool convenient and effective for visualizing products in their spaces, enhancing their shopping experience.
High-quality images and the “Similar Items” section helped users better envision products in their homes, aligning well with the overall design theme.
Negative
Participants wanted more customization options, like swapping items or adjusting layouts, after AI-generated room designs.
Some users found the upload interface too basic and suggested a more dynamic, visually engaging experience, such as drag-and-drop functionality.
Key Takeaways:
-
User Experience: The minimalist design and clear layout were well-received, making the site visually appealing and easy to navigate. Participants appreciated the intuitive filtering options and the effectiveness of the AI tool in helping them visualize products in their spaces.
-
AI Tool Feedback: The AI decorator feature was praised for its convenience, but users expressed a desire for more customization options, such as the ability to swap items or adjust room layouts.
-
Areas for Improvement: The upload interface was seen as too basic. Participants suggested enhancing it with more dynamic and interactive features, like drag-and-drop functionality, to improve user engagement.
What Did I Learn
-
Enhance Customization:
Incorporate additional customization options, allowing users to adjust AI-generated designs to better fit their personal preferences.
-
Improve Upload Interface:
Develop a more dynamic upload experience, potentially adding drag-and-drop capabilities to make the process more engaging and user-friendly.
-
Expand Testing:
Consider gathering feedback from a broader range of participants to validate the current design and uncover further areas for improvement.
-
Refine AI Recommendations:
Continue refining the AI-powered tool to offer even more personalized and precise decorating suggestions based on user feedback and testing results.
Next Steps
The Designers Role
As the UI/UX designer, I guide the project through each phase of the modified GV design sprint. I conduct initial user research to deeply understand user pain points, lead the creation of wireframes and prototypes, and facilitate design discussions to ensure the platform is both user-centric and feasible.
The Solution
Our solution was to develop an AI-powered tool that designs rooms based on the user’s style preferences and budget. The tool provides personalized, curated recommendations and includes visualization features that allow users to see how items will look together in their space before making a purchase. This approach offers practical, easy-to-follow decorating plans that reduce decision fatigue and ensure a cohesive look, all while staying within budget.
The Challenge
House2Home is designed to assist users in personalizing their spaces, especially those who feel unsure about selecting the right decor.
The website will offer an intuitive platform that enables users to quickly discover and choose their needs. The focus is on affordable, small items priced between $10 and $50, ensuring that users can enhance their space without the need for larger, more expensive products.
Problem Statement
The main challenge users face is decorating their apartments in a way that reflects their personal style while staying within a limited budget.
They experience difficulty in translating their aesthetic preferences into a cohesive decor plan that fits their space and financial constraints.
Additionally, users are often overwhelmed by the vast number of choices available and the uncertainty about which items will work well together in their specific living spaces.
